Platform Eco-Archaeological Bio-reserve, Cuba 2023[open in full screen]

Previous Taina Plaza, Choro de Maitta, Cuba

This Eco-Archeological Bio-Reserve is located at the western edge of the Riu Luna Y Mares Resort where we stayed. It is taking whole peninsula [approximately 2x2 km] and the platform with "The View" is located on the high point overlooking Playa Esmeralda. Check the image bellow.

This time we visited this place at the end of dry season, so greenery is not as lush as we remember from our previous visit in 2012. In the fifth row of photos bellow we have few photos from that visit.
This is what we found on the internet about indigenous population living in this area. Traces were found during archaeological excavations.

Towards the 2,500 BC, remaining hunters proceeded to exploit the coasts to obtain other resources. It is considered that small bands of fisher-gatherers arrived at the Cuban coasts from the north-east of present day Venezuela and Hispaniola (today Haiti and Dominican Republic). The cultural and social exchange that took place with the earlier inhabitants shaped what is known as the Fisher-Gatherer phase, also known as "Ciboney Phase".

These occupied the whole of the archipelago and developed an important sea-shell industry. Its last representatives disappeared at the beginning of the Spanish conquest.

Later they merged with pre Hispanic aboriginals Aldea Taina that manly disappeared after Spanish rival. Some newest exploration establish a link, even some cultural, religious and linguistic links with small minority of population of Cubans.

We are highly recommending to explore the area, visit this platform and also visit reconstructed village Chorro de Mata of Aldea Taina.
