Plaça de la Catedral [Plaça de la Seu], Barcelona, 2004[open in full screen]

  Previous Plaça Reial, Barcelona, Spain

Plaza is home to the Barcelona cathedral, an impressive gothic building begun in 1298, and finished only during the 19th century.

It houses a romanesque chapel, a wonderful cloister and many medieval catalan paintings. The building façade is currently under construction, due to restoration.

Plaça de Cathedral is a wonderful meeting place where visitors and locals alike can dine, watch street performers or just relax in the very core of the Barri Gòthic. Of course Picasso, most famous barcelona paimter is also present here in a form of mural above one of the stores. The square is also periodically converted to a large outdoor antique market or a spot to dance the 'sardanes' the traditional Catalonian dance.   On the small photo right is very interesting market on the pedestrianized space just to the west of Plaça de la Seu on the map.

We have visited this space again in 2009, and there is another version of the square in our collection.
