Praça Ribeira, Ericeira, Portugal, 2017 [open in full screen]

  Previous Praca Republica, Ericeira
❖ Every couple of years people in disbelief are watching Portuguese King abondining the country. We desribe one such event from 1807 on our square in Lisbon. Almost exactly one hundred years later in 1910 from this square they watched King Manuel II of Portugal went into exile, from the Praia dos Pescadores, after the outbreak of the 5 October 1910 revolution.
It was about 3:00 in the afternoon, little before the time when this photos were taken, when the 20 year old monarch, accompanied by Queen Amélie and Queen Mother Maria Pia, arrived by car, escaping from the recent Republican revolution in Lisbon, the king was bound for the royal yacht D. Amélia offshore on the way of no return to Brasil. This is what this praca is most famous for.   Square is ideal people watching spot, both for passers by or down on the beach. Occassionaly even for watching fudball games on the beach organized during summer months.

Ericeira is our favourite resort town in Portugal so, of course we visited this spot several times, last time in 2010.
