Scherminkelstraat, Vlissingen, Nederland, 2005

As an important 2nd world war shipyard centre this largest city in the Zeeland province, did not escape consequences and was almost totally destroyed. This square in the reconstructed, pedestrianized down town area is a very good example of contemporary approach to town planning. Notice how this open space square is well adjusted to elements (rain) with covered areas around the edges of the space.
Excelent street furniture and proportions. Even the side streets [smal photo] are showing signs of clever people responsible for planning process.
