Vicolo del Duomo, Treviso, Italy, 2007[open in full screen]

Previous Piazza del Duomo, Treviso, Italy

This small space between Duomo and the main, arcaded, shopping street Calmaggiore is complete opposite of the space in front of the church. At the first glance it has no usage. But that's not right.

It has a subtle reason to exist as a tampon zone in the approach from the busy street and preparing pedestrians for the excitements in the narrow streets leading to the centre of the town. Many people are also using it as a resting spot and convenient meeting place.
It is quite smart for city urbanist to let this quiet space have life of its own without much of the obvious assigned usage, letting users find their own reasons for being here. We found a little shop selling the dinner set with images that reminded us of our daughter!
