Plaza de la Periodistas, Quito, Ecuador, 2015

On this square, in front of the monument to Eugenio de Santa Cruz y Espejo, Quito's first journalist that lived between 1747 and 1795, on 24 of May 2014 the Day of the Ecuadorian Journalist is revealed.

On that occasion president of the National Union of Journalists Vicente Ordonez talked about the present situation of the freedom of expression in the country.

He also asked the mayor Mauritius Rhodes that this space takes the name Place of the Journalists [Plaza de la Periodistas]. Request was accepted and mayor Mauritius Rhodes also revealed a commemorative plaque celebrating 223 years of creation of the first newspaper.
On the map to the right the locations of Quito squares in our collection are marked, along with direct links to all of them.
