Plaza Mayor Trinidad, Cuba, 2016

This wonderful plaza laid down when city was founded in 1514, beautifully restored, celebrated 500 years in 2014.

Trinidad is today quite different than the city we visited in 2004. Square is in excellent shape but atmosphere is changed.

Our panorama is unfortunately incomplete due to some technical difficulties caused by the enormous number of tourists on the square.

Those same visitors that are actually drastically changing the city. By day plaza is occupied by numerous motorists, and by night live traditional Cuban music is taking place all around.

I will try to compensate this impression with few photos around the square.

There is an addition to this visit, one remarkable copy of this square, with identical name and surprisingly similar atmosphere and architecture. Scroll all the way to the bottom to visit that space.

This Plaza Mayor is located just 12 km south of the city of Trinidad in the resort called Brisas Trinidad do Mar. Interestingly resort is planned around three public squares and they are connected with pedestrian streets. Quite different and huge improvement over numerous other resorts we visited.

Few photos from the resort are illustrating this planning achievement. Most of the visual elements from the original plaza were incorporated in the design including the copy of the original cast iron benches!
