❖Plaza Mayor Trinidad, Cuba, 2004 |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Plaza Mayor is a square is in the heart of the world heritage city of Trinidad, where cobblestone streets and pastel coloured houses give the impression that time has not moved since wealthy landowners founded the city in 1514. |
Trinidad was a major centre in colonial times for the trade of sugar and slaves. A long period of isolation 1850 - 1950, protected the city and this square from any radical new buildings and it was left unchanged and skillfully restored down to the finest details like the street lights or benches in the park. |
Today this square, in a city that surprisingly exists without any hotels, serves tourists from distant countries and locals.
We visited Plaza Mayor again in 2016, whole city including this plaza is significantly changed! |
