Trg Ante Starcevica, Zagreb, Croatia, 2011

This was our first visit to Zagreb and Croatia after a long pause caused by the turmoil after separation from the former Yugoslavia. We were suppose to meet some travel companions arriving from Italy to Zagreb and this was the only public space whose location was easily describable and explained. "Ask for the railway station [kolodvor] and then look for the most attractive building, Hotel Esplanade". On the surface square looked almost the same as we remembered from 20 years ago. Underneath it was different! Whole underground area is converted to the quite busy shopping mall, attracting most of the pedestrian traffic.

That's leaving well maintained parks above to be pleasantly half empty.
