Little Norway Park is a small park in the Harbourfront area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the southwest corner of Bathurst Street and Queens Quay West. The park's name commemorates Little Norway, the exiled Royal Norwegian Air Force training base that had occupied the site during the Second World War. In 1976, a 1360 kg large rock [boulder] from Norway, was transported to the location as a permanent monument to that time. It was unveiled by Crown Prince Harald of Norway on September 18, 1976. It is still here of course. |
The Dreamwork of the Whales, a magnificent piece of art, was conceived and produced by the Ne Chi Zu Works, a group of Toronto-born artists living in Vancouver. It is located on the north-west corner of the park. [ whole story => ]
The park is also a meeting and protest site in downtown Toronto. On this occasion, on May 12 2026, as a protest against a planned expansion of the neighbouring Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. We were there too, together with our daughters and granddaughters. Check the very emotional letter written by one of them. |
In April 2026, the Ontario government announced plans to expropriate one-third of the park.
“Unilaterally taking city land is not acceptable,” Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said in a release Thursday afternoon. “The Provincial Government has ignored the City of Toronto’s demand to be at the table on the future of the waterfront. This is yet another example of the provincial overreach that has become the norm". Extremly pleasant space on the waterfront. More photos from this space on our photoblog. |
