Mount Pleasant Square, Brampton, Canada, 2012[open in full screen]

A new kind of development is being built on the outskirts of Brampton, in the Greater Toronto Area. Urban and livable, focused around transit, compact and walkable, with a strong character, Mount Pleasant Village represents the new face of greenfield development in Ontario and it is a demonstration of Brampton’s work for smarter growth and more sustainable and liveable development.

Previous description is quite accurate if you are looking on the paper. In reality this square built around professionally restored railway station is dead. We visited this place on weekend and beside us, in an hour while we were walking around and making photos, only one single person appeared and crossed the square on foot. Everything is closed. Not even cars are seen around and from the south side even motorized traffic is cut of. You can park on the south side near Go Station and then use underground passage to the square itself.   In the middle of this public space there is a nice sculpture, quite adequately called "Ghost Train". Attractive if it is inside some exhibition gallery, here it is noticeable, and probably visited, only by ghosts. I can imagine that during the week Go Train station is attracting people during rush hours but otherwise, I think this square missed the opportunity to make space "Livable".
