Dandas Street. & Brock Road, Whitby, Canada, 2007

This corner of two busy streets in downtown Whitby is closest to the concept of public square that is to be found anywhere in this town. Some shy interventions like street lights, expansions of street corners, pedestrian islands etc. are noticeable. Intention is there, understanding of the need and determination to implement new space is not. Of course some unavoidable warnings for young population is most prominent.
We in Revitalization Institute worked on the Neighbourhood Portrait of the nearby Williamsburg [on the outskirts of this city] and conclusion can be summarized in the photo bellow. If you are interested complete report is here.
