❖St. Lawrence Market Square, Toronto, 2006 |

Previous Berzy Park, Toronto
Indisputable centre of this neighbourhood is St. Lawrence market. It is consistent with what historically was centre of the community in the old world, where cities were growing organically around gathering place [market]. That is not case here. This was a space of the original city market but city was not growing organically someone just drew 10 city blocks on a piece of paper. |
St. Lawrence market’s main entrance is on the Front street, built over the old Toronto city hall from 1845. Remains are still visible incorporated in the market structure. Unique atmosphere of highly functional market together with many other heritage buildings are making this social urban space one of the most attractive in Toronto. Hopefully this image will bring some of the typical Saturday morning ambience. | This square is part of psychogeographical portrait of this neighbourhood, created for the project "Digital neighbourhoods" in cooperation with B. Humber at Revitalization Institute, Seneca College, Toronto, December 2006, PDF Interactive document 2.7 MB of this project is available here.
