Eslanade Walk, Toronto

North St. James Town or Little Filipino Town as I am calling it, is a downtown Toronto community dominated by high-rises. These buildings are home to more than 20,000 residents. With that many residents St. James Town is the most densely populated community in all of Toronto, all of Canada and also all of North America. Only 40 per cent of the residents list English as their Mother Tongue. Other top Mother Tongues are: Tagalog (Pilipino, Filipino) 20%, Tamil 10%, Spanish 10%, and all others around 20%. So it rightfully deserves Little Filipino name.

It is also obvious how public space is needed, take a look at the photo above to see how this extension of the street is used as a gathering space – almost like a small urban square.

Visit our special Psychogeography portrait if this community for much more information.

Lets start conversation!
